Dragon Bone gets its name from its striking, skeleton-like raised main ribs and spiny texture that resembles a mythical dragon’s backbone—an instant visual signature for authenticity. It features a tall natural high-pile, prominent sharp tip, bold angular shoulders, firm compact belly, thick ridged edges, and a flat circular base with a small tight navel. The grain is aggressive yet ordered: raised primary veins with secondary barbed/spiny patterns, tactilely robust without being overly scratchy. The skin has a clean, warm honey-gold waxy finish, ultra-high density, and rich natural oils—it feels substantial in hand, with a crisp metallic ring when tapped together. The patina progression is impressively vivid and fast: pale gold → warm amber → intense ox-tendon red → translucent jade-like deep crimson, developing a glassy glossy luster with consistent daily rolling and brushing. Typical sizes range from50–60mm (70mm+ specimens are extremely rare, historical collector’s items snapped up by top connoisseurs in 2013). It matures in mid-to-late September. When selecting pairs, avoid critical flaws: uneven rib height, twisted asymmetrical shape, chipped tips, pale/yellowish skin, and enlarged misshapen navels. Ideal for experienced wild chouzi lovers and serious collectors; its dramatic silhouette and rapid, vibrant color change make it a standout piece for display, daily play, and investment. Limited grafted yield and extremely challenging pairing keep its premium market status.
