Heaven & Earth Wenwan Walnut · 40mm · Natural · Select Ritual
The Heaven & Earth Wenwan Walnut, traditionally known in China as Tiandi (天地), is a rare hat-style variety associated with Huairou, Beijing. Its name, meaning “Heaven and Earth,” reflects its distinctive structure: a broad, commanding upper form balanced by a flat, stable base.
It features a classic wide-brimmed silhouette with gently sloping shoulders, a full rounded body, and a distinctive recessed, diamond-shaped navel. Bold, twisting grain spreads across the shell in flame-like patterns, creating strong three-dimensional depth and giving the variety a powerful yet balanced appearance.
Its naturally ginger-yellow shell is supported by excellent bone density and a solid shell structure, providing substantial weight and a satisfying feel in hand. With regular brushing and handling, the color develops gradually, transitioning from its warm initial tone toward a bright, translucent red patina with increasing depth and gloss.
Most Heaven & Earth Wenwan Walnuts available today are cultivated through grafting. Because the broad upper structure, flat base, diamond-shaped navel, and overall proportions can vary considerably between individual walnuts, well-balanced matched pairs require careful selection.
Combining its symbolic “Heaven & Earth” structure, bold flame-like grain, dense shell, and distinctive hat-style silhouette, the Heaven & Earth Wenwan Walnut is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a traditional variety with strong visual character and long-term patina potential.
