Pinggu Concave Base earns its legendary name from the pronounced, bowl-shaped natural concave bottom—the soul of the variety, often called the “Treasure Basin” for its auspicious implication. It typically features a medium-short triangular pile, small blunt tip, rounded full shoulders, plump horse-hoof belly, and thin yet firm edges. The skin is a rich reddish wax skin with exceptional density and natural oil content, offering a heavy hand feel and crisp, metallic collision sound. The texture is deep, continuous bumpy/grainy patterns that smoothly extend to the concave base without abrupt breaks; the air vents are small, oblong, and sunken neatly into the center of the basin. Patination is fast and stable: starting from pale ginger, it quickly transitions to bright orange-red, matures into glossy jujube red, and finally develops a translucent jade-like oxblood red luster. It is beginner-friendly with quick color change, but watch for common flaws when selecting pairs: uneven concavity depth, yellow spots, tip wear, and mismatched size/shape. Wild original-tree fruits are extremely rare and highly collectible; grafted fruits are more accessible, with medium sizes (38–41mm being classic, 42+mm specimens are scarce and premium-priced). It matures in mid-to-late September, with strong market appeal among both casual players and serious collectors, ideal for daily hand rolling, fortune-themed gifting, and long-term collection investment.
